Whitworth University Pine Bowl

SPVV has completed multiple projects at Whitworth University’s Pine Bowl over our history, starting with the original 1994 construction of the football field, all-weather NCAA-level track and field facility, and master planning for future expansion. In 2017, SPVV assisted the university in converting converted the grass football field to a new FieldTurf synthetic turf surface, including the redesign of the field crown, a high-performance drainage system and upgrades to communications and electrical for the facility. The project was completed in August 2017, ahead of the 2017 football season.

Whitworth University later retained SPVV as part of the design-build effort to renovate the all-weather running track and bring it back into compliance with NCAA standards. The original 1994 running surface and the 2013 re-coat had deteriorated, and the base asphalt and curbing had settled over time, creating portions of the track that were out of NCAA compliance. In association with Walker Construction, SPVV had the facility surveyed and designed a new running track surface that incorporated existing perimeter curbing. The new Olympic-style “Mondo” running surface is the only outdoor running track of its type in the Pacific Northwest.
