Cancer Care Northwest

The Cancer Care Northwest Valley Treatment Center features healing gardens adjacent to the infusion room, allowing patients to view the garden while receiving treatment. A water feature offers soothing sound and visual and tactile interest, while a commissioned sculpture titled ‘Lantern of Hope’ provides an inspirational focal point to patients, staff, and family members. The 7-foot-tall lantern is manufactured of lightly brushed stainless steel with hammered copper overlays and is illuminated with a red LED light. The healing gardens offer two patio spaces to accommodate tables and chairs and provide a quiet place in the sun to read a book or simply rest and reflect while waiting for loved ones receiving treatment.

A sunken garden at the basement level is designed specifically for Cancer Care Northwest staff. The garden is encapsulated by tiered concrete terraces covered in vines, evergreen shrubs, and flowering groundcovers that spill over the edge of the terrace walls.

SPVV purposely developed a landscape design with wide, sweeping bedding areas that soften the site and provide buffers to the adjacent streets and neighborhood. Planted with combinations of evergreen trees, shrubs, ornamental grasses, perennials, flowering shrubs, and groundcovers, the landscape provides year-round visual interest and texture.
