Eastern Washington University

SPVV has completed more than 20 projects at Eastern Washington University, ranging from pedestrian pathways to athletic facilities and residence halls. These are a few of our favorites.

Kennedy Library Plaza

SPVV staff served as landscape architectural consultant to an architectural firm and Eastern Washington University for the redevelopment of the Cheney campus’ central core and pedestrian path network. Paver pathways radiate out from the center of the plaza. The core is home to a paved amphitheater used for speaking and performances. The larger pathways link the campus entries to the Kennedy Library Plaza, which became the new heart of the campus.

The guiding philosophy for the plaza design was to emphasize the Kennedy Library as the center of the learning environment and enhance the vision of the educational experience. The water feature includes Gloria Bornstein’s art piece, “One to Z,” sponsored by the Washington Arts Commission. This piece symbolizes the origins of the various world languages and the evolution of knowledge.

Roos Field

SPVV assisted in the selection of the new red turf at Roos Field. The original turf, well past a usable service life, was replaced with a hybrid monofilament/slit film fiber in the signature red color. As part of the field resurfacing, SPVV created design studies for relocating the track events outside the football facility.
