Role at SPVV Landscape Architects
Laura has three years of professional experience at SPVV, but her journey with SPVV started earlier than that. While pursuing her degree at Washington State University, Laura interned with SPVV for three years. During her internship, Laura learned about the life of a project and how a landscape architectural firm divvies up the work from project start-up to project close-out. Laura also gained experience in administrative skills such as SOQ preparation, creating cut sheet packages, designing marketing materials, and organizing current and archived projects through database planning. Since graduating from WSU, Laura now works on a wide variety of project types, from residential gardens to commercial building sites, K-12 schools to higher education facilities, park projects to streetscape planning, and many more in between. Although every new project has its challenges and unique qualities which she enjoys, her true passion is planning, especially for complete streets and wayfinding.
Why I Work Here
I love this profession because it balances creativity and technical thinking into one interesting and ever-changing business. No one project will ever be exactly like another. Although we approach each project similarly to one another, the outcome will always be different and you learn something new with each project you work on. Here at SPVV, we are exposed to all different types of work. There is never a dull day in our office, from the projects that go out the door, to the clients that come in, to the people that I have the pleasure of working with every day. I consider my colleagues an extension of my family and I feel very privileged to feel that way about where, and with whom, I work. We work as a team, play as friends, share like family, and produce consistently great work.
Outside of Work
You can find Laura pumping iron at the gym, creating culinary masterpieces, playing volleyball, watching movies with her husband, spending time with her ever-growing family, playing with her puppies (Ham and Cheddar), dancing, or enjoying a conversation over a cocktail with friends.
