Role at SPVV Landscape Architects
Jena is a landscape architect and project manager with over 17 years’ experience on a wide range of projects and has, literally, the funnest job at the firm. Jena’s expertise is in designing children’s play, learning, and healing landscapes, with a special focus on nature play environments and designing for children with autism. Her belief is that no amount of screen time can compare with the joy found in making a mud pie, the discovery experienced when turning over a rock, and the freedom that fills the hours spent in unstructured play.
Beyond children’s landscapes, Jena has worked on numerous streetscape and transportation projects, parks, trails, public and institutional facilities, healthcare facilities, bike and pedestrian trails, wetland mitigation and native restoration. She contributes to projects with extensive experience in master planning, site planning, detailed site and planting design, cost estimation, technical specification writing, and assisting in the public involvement process.
Why I Work Here
I’m the mother of young, energetic twin girls. Watching them grow and develop has been, hands-down, the most amazing experience of my life. I’ve been specializing in designing children’s landscapes since 2004. My role as mom has intensified my amazement for what tiny humans are capable of and how differently they experience the world. Encouraging as much unstructured, imaginative, nature-based play before the sun sets is our daily goal at home. I came on board with SPVV because, first, they are great people who do excellent work. Second, it’s the place I feel I’ll be able to do the work I love with the greatest reach.
